Our Haunted World: Ghost Stories from Around the Globe

Submission Deadline: September 15, 2010

 

This anthology of ghost stories will take readers on a haunting tour of the globe.  Stories selected for the anthology will succeed in making us shiver, and they will also have a strong sense of place. We will be selecting a story or two set in the U.S., but stories from elsewhere will have a better chance of being accepted. Stories can draw on the myths and folklore of different locations and cultures, or they can invent new horrors.  All stories, however, should capture the flavor of their locale, and all should make it difficult for the reader to fall asleep at night. 

 

The Specifics: We're looking for previously unpublished stories in the 500 to 8,000 word range. Multiple submissions are fine, as are simultaneous submissions (but let us know if your story is under consideration elsewhere, and notify us immediately if someone else accepts it).  Whitlock Publishing requires one-time world-wide rights to publish your story in the anthology, and all other rights to the work remain with you.

 

We are not looking for young children's stories, catalogs of gore and torture, graphic sexual content, or works with sloppy and error-filled prose.

 

Format: Send your story as an attachment in RTF (rich text format). Your email subject line should read: "Haunted World - Your Story's Title - Your Name - Word Count." The top of the first page of the story should include your contact information and the word count. All stories should be double spaced in a standard, easily readable font. In your email message, include a brief biographical note.

 

Payment: Two contributor copies. The best submission (as judged by our editorial staff) will receive a $50 payment.
